Halton Squirt Hawks Earn PWSA Crown
For a team that lost just two out of 58 games this season, the Halton squirt Hawks fittingly sewed up the Provincial Women’s Softball Association’s under-12 championship by going undefeated at the tournament held in Brantford earlier this month.
The Hawks, who finished up the year with a 53-2-3 record, went 3-0 in pool play before downing Waterloo Gold 11-1 in the quarter-final behind stellar pitching by Sarah Lamers, Taryn Gaudry and Emma Glagau.
Halton Hills beat Guelph 14-2 in the semis powered by a three-run homer by Danika Millen, followed by a matchup in the final against the Vaughan Vikings, the only team to defeat the squirt Hawks this season.
The Halton squad won 6-2 over Vaughan to capture the Ontario Grand Championship for their seventh unbeaten tournament gold medal performance of the year and placed second behind the Vikings in the season-opening tourney in Brampton.
